Worthing has plenty of great places for family photos, from the seafront and beach to parks, gardens and the countryside just outside the town.
When choosing a location for a family photoshoot, I’m less concerned with finding the most picturesque spot and more interested in finding somewhere your family will actually enjoy being. The best photographs tend to happen when children have space to explore, play and be themselves.
Here are some of my favourite options for family photos in and around Worthing.
Worthing Beach
The beach is an obvious choice, but there’s a reason it works so well for family photography. There’s plenty of space for children to run around, explore and play, while the seafront gives us lots of opportunities for more relaxed family portraits too.
We can walk along the beach, stop for a play, dip our feet in the water or simply spend some time together. I’ll guide you when needed, but there’s no expectation for everyone to stand still and look at the camera for the whole session.
Worthing Pier and the promenade can also add a bit of variety, particularly with older children who enjoy having somewhere to walk and explore.
Steyne Gardens
If you’d prefer greenery rather than the beach, Steyne Gardens is a good option. It’s close to the seafront, so it’s also possible to combine the two if you want some variety without travelling between different locations.
The gardens work well for a mixture of walking, playing and family portraits, particularly with younger children.
Cissbury Ring
For families who enjoy being outdoors, Cissbury Ring is a great choice. There’s plenty of space to walk and explore, with views across the surrounding countryside.
It works particularly well if you want your family photos to feel more like a day out together than a traditional photoshoot. Children can run, climb and explore while I photograph what’s happening naturally, along with some portraits along the way.
Ferring and Goring-by-Sea
The coastline around Ferring and Goring-by-Sea offers another option if you want something a little quieter than central Worthing.
There are lovely stretches of beach and plenty of opportunities for walking, playing and exploring. It can be a good choice for families who want a relaxed coastal session without necessarily having the busier seafront in the background.
Family Photos at Home
You don't always need to go anywhere at all. Some of my favourite family sessions start at home, particularly with younger children who are happiest in familiar surroundings.
We can photograph the things you normally enjoy doing together – playing in the garden, reading stories, baking, having a cuddle on the sofa or simply letting the children play.
It can also work particularly well if you have a baby or toddler and don't want the added hassle of getting everyone out of the house.

Choosing the Right Location for Your Family Photos
The best location isn't necessarily the most beautiful one. It’s somewhere where your family feels comfortable and your children have something to do.
Before your session, I’ll ask what your children enjoy and what you tend to do together. From there, we can choose somewhere that suits you.
That might be the beach, a park, the countryside or your own home. I’m happy to suggest locations based on the age of your children, the time of year and the kind of photographs you’re hoping for.
