Maternity in the Rain | A Calm, Natural Photoshoot at the Horniman museum Gardens

Capturing quiet, real moments before baby arrives

I recently met Michaela and her husband for a maternity photoshoot in Dulwich, starting our morning with a quick coffee at the café by the Horniman Museum. They live nearby in Forest Hill, so the gardens felt like an easy, familiar choice - peaceful, green, and full of quiet spots to explore.

After a quick chat over coffee, we wandered through the gardens, taking our time and stopping wherever the light felt right. My lifestyle maternity sessions are centred around connection - I offer gentle guidance to help you feel comfortable in front of the camera, but I like to keep things easy, calm, and enjoyable.

Towards the end, it began to rain, first lightly and then a little more steadily. Instead of stopping, we kept going - Michaela popped open her umbrella, and we carried on shooting, even in the drizzle. The rain changed the light and added a quiet, intimate atmosphere to the photos, creating some unexpectedly beautiful moments.

My approach to maternity photography is simple and relaxed - no elaborate posing, just honest moments in natural light. If you’re expecting and live in Dulwich, Forest Hill, or South London, the gardens at the Horniman Museum are a beautiful backdrop for a session like this: open, calm, and full of character in every season.

Below you’ll find a few of my favourite pictures of this recent Forest Hill maternity photoshoot, I hope you like them as much as I do!
