Newborn Photoshoot in Clapham | A Relaxed At-Home Session Before Christmas

I went to Clapham just before Christmas for a newborn photoshoot with a lovely American family who, at the time I did their newborn photos, had grandparents visiting from the States. So lovely they were able to join the photoshoot!

We began the morning with baby Teddy while his brother Cooper was still at nursery, which allowed me to truly focus on his newborn portraits, the small details like his tiny hands and feet, and cuddles with his parents.

Teddy was only a few weeks old and spent most of the time being held. We worked at his pace, stopping for feeds and taking breaks as needed, without trying to force the session into a set structure.

This is always how I work during a newborn photoshoot: photographing families at home, as things actually unfold. I don’t bring props or try to manufacture moments. The aim is to document what this stage really looks like, not a polished version of it.

A bit later, Cooper came home from nursery and naturally became part of the session. He was lovely and calm around his baby brother and more than happy to show me his room. We also took some sweet family photographs by the Christmas tree, with the grandparents joining for a few frames as well.

Travelling back into South London always brings back memories for me. We lived in SE22 for several years before moving down to Hove in Sussex, and places like Clapham, Wandsworth, Earlsfield and Tooting still feel very familiar. I genuinely enjoy returning for work - hopping on the train, walking through these neighbourhoods, and photographing families in local parks like Clapham Common or Richmond Park.

I absolutely loved this newborn session in Clapham! If you are pregnant, or have just became a mum yourself, and are thinking of booking your own natural newborn photo session, I’d love to hear from you!
