From Portslade to Lancing: A Family Session Before the Move
Today on the blog, I’m sharing a recent photo session with a lovely family of four, just days before they moved from their home in Portslade to start a new chapter in Lancing.
Muka got in touch while surrounded by half-packed boxes — she said there were so many early memories with the kids in this house, and she didn’t want to leave without capturing a few of them. I love these last-minute sessions; they feel honest and full of real life.
When I arrived, it was clear the move was well underway. Boxes everywhere, a bit of chaos, and lots of energy. We started with some relaxed portraits in the living room, then headed upstairs to photograph a wall they decorated themselves a few years ago when the youngest was born — a small detail, but one that really meant something to them.
Before we left, I suggested a doorstep photo. It felt like a simple way to mark the place they’d called home for so long. After that, we drove to the beach. It was a bit chilly, but we had a nice walk and even stopped for ice cream — the kind of everyday moments that tell their own story.
Families come to me for all sorts of reasons, but I always appreciate when someone wants to document life as it is, especially during big transitions. My daughter is six and has already lived in three different homes. She won’t remember them all, but I’m glad we’ve got photos from each place — just little visual reminders of where we’ve been.
If you're moving soon and thinking about capturing a few final memories at home, feel free to get in touch — I’d love to hear what your home means to you.
