7 Reasons to Book an At-Home Newborn Photoshoot

There's something truly special about those first weeks with your newborn. The softness of their skin, those tiny hands and feet, and the overwhelming love that fills the room - it's a time that deserves to be documented. On the blog today, I will explore seven reasons why I think everyone who’s expecting a baby should consider booking an at home newborn photo session.

  1. Embrace Comfort and Familiarity: Bringing a newborn baby to a studio can be a hassle. With an at-home newborn photoshoot, you don't have to worry about packing up all the essentials or traveling with a little one. Instead, you get to stay in the comfort of your own home, where you and your baby feel most at ease. It's a stress-free and relaxed environment that allows for authentic and natural moments to be captured.

  2. Personalised Storytelling: Your home tells your unique family story. During my newborn sessions I always make sure I take photos at multiple places in the house - no need to tidy up, as a documentary newborn photographer I’d like to capture life as it is. If there’s a nursery we can take some photos there, we can include feeding pictures in the living room and maybe do some closeup shots of your baby lying on the bed. By choosing to get those newborn photos done in your own environment, you’ll end up with a collection of images that beautifully narrate the chapter of your lives as new parents.

  3. Capture Intimate Connections: At-home newborn photoshoots provide an opportunity to capture the authentic moments shared between you and your baby in the intimacy of your own space. It's about documenting the gentle touch, the smiles, and the bonds that form naturally. Without the distractions of a studio, we can focus on capturing those moments that unfold organically.

  4. Time Flexibility: Newborns have their own schedules, and, as a mum myself, I understand that completely. With an at-home session, we can work around your baby's feeding and sleeping routines. There's no rush or pressure to conform to specific studio hours. We adapt to your needs, ensuring a calm and stress-free experience for both you and your little one. It's about allowing your baby to dictate the pace while we capture their unique personality.

  5. Detail Shots: You really want to capture those tiny details of your newborn baby as they change so quickly, especially in those first months. I’d like to photograph their flaky skin, tiny toes and button noses. There is no need for your little one to be fast asleep and all wrapped up, as my newborn shoots are all really relaxed and baby-led.

  6. Include Siblings and Pets: At-home newborn photoshoots offer the opportunity to involve older siblings and even four-legged family members. Including siblings in the session allows for natural interactions and genuine connections to be captured, I love capturing the moments between siblings. And let's not forget about cats and dogs —they are an integral part of the family too! With an at-home session, we can seamlessly integrate them into the family portraits, ensuring a complete family story.

  7. Preserve Everyday Moments: An at-home newborn photoshoot allows me to capture the beauty of everyday life with your baby, and that’s what documentary newborn photography is all about. From the morning snuggles in bed to bath time and story time rituals, these ordinary moments become extraordinary when frozen in time. By documenting these moments, we create a visual story that captures the authenticity and joy of your daily routines as a brand new family!
