Booking an in-home newborn photoshoot is is a wonderful way to ensure you capture those early moments that might pass by in the blink of an eye but are still so precious. When you’ve finally made the decision to book in your newborn photoshoot, you’ll want to make the most out of your session, so I’ve created a client’s guide with some practical tips to ensure a relaxed and fun experience.

  1. Timing is Everything: Work with the photographer to find a time that aligns with your baby's routine. I am really flexible and always follow your baby’s needs during my newborn shoots.

  2. Plan Breaks for Feeding and Comfort: Anticipate your baby's needs by planning breaks for feeding, nappy changes, or to make yourself a coffee! This helps keep you and your little one content and allows for more natural, authentic and relaxed moments to be captured.

  3. Be Flexible: Newborns can be unpredictable. Embrace the spontaneity of the session and just let the events unfold as they come. It’s my job to capture those early weeks with your newborn baby in an authentic way through beautiful images.

  4. Capture Everyday Life: Don't shy away from documenting the ordinary aspects of your daily life with your newborn. Whether it's a quiet feeding, a little power nap, or an outfit change, these candid shots can be incredibly meaningful and reflect real life with a newborn baby!

  5. Get Cozy: Encourage natural interactions with your newborn. Cuddles and gentle touches often result in the most authentic photographs.

  6. Communication is Key: Establish clear communication with your newborn photographer regarding your expectations and preferences. Share any specific ideas or requests you may have for the shoot, ensuring that everyone is on the same page.

  7. Enjoy the Moment: Remember, this session is about capturing the genuine joy and connection within your family. Relax, enjoy the process, and trust your photographer to work their magic. The more at ease you are, the more natural and beautiful the photos will be.

  8. Plan Ahead for Siblings and Pets: If you have other children or pets, plan for their involvement in the shoot. Discuss with the photographer any special moments you'd like to capture, ensuring that everyone feels included.

  9. Use Natural Light to Your Advantage: If possible, schedule the photoshoot during a time when your home receives the most natural light. Open curtains or blinds to let in sunlight, creating a soft and natural ambiance that enhances the warmth and authenticity of the photographs.

  10. Relax and Be Yourself: Your natural self is what I aim to capture. Don't stress about achieving perfect poses. Instead, focus on enjoying the time with your newborn baby and let me do the rest. :-)

If you are a new parent, or are currently pregnant, and would like to get your own newborn photoshoot booked in then I’d love to hear from you. I live in Hove, East Sussex, but travel regularly to Worthing, Chichester, Littlehampton, Arundel and all over West Sussex to document newborn babies at home!
