Family Pool Portraits | How to get those half underwater shots

Family Pool Portrait. How to get hose half underwater shots in the pool by using the Telesin Dome Port with the GoPro Hero 10. Girl jumping in pool, water splashes on dad.

My last blog post was all about the newest addition to my camera kit: the GoPro Hero 10 - a great camera for underwater pictures! When I was researching this camera online I came across quite a few awesome half underwater shots and I really wanted to find out more about how these pictures were taken. Turns out that I needed a dome - so that’s what I bought. :-)

I have to admit that when I rocked up at the pool with my GoPro housed in its waterproof Telesin Dome Port (including floating handgrip) I felt a bit self-conscious. I mean, it’s quite a big, bright yellow piece of equipment, which definitely attracted some looks, but hey, everything for THE shot right?!

The Dome has a “pistol trigger” which can easily be operated using one hand, and if you set your GoPro to burst mode it can take up to 25 frames in one second - pretty good! Unfortunately our pool in Gran Canaria wasn’t that great for playing around with this camera gadget - as it was 1.60m deep and I am 1.65m tall, so I basically couldn’t properly stand whilst photographing. We had a lot of fun though! My 5 year old daughter is still learning how to swim, but adores the water and loves jumping into the pool which is perfect when you’re after those water action shots.

I also had a go at using the Dome in the sea but, unless you are in very calm and clear blue water, you don’t have much visibility underwater I’m afraid. So I’m not sure if this will be used much at Brighton or Hove beach, but let’s see. I am very excited to take both my GoPro and the Dome on the paddle board with me though. Please can it be Summer now?!
